"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden... In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to
your Father who is in heaven." — Matthew 5:14-17

CSCA COMES UP SHORT IN HARD-FOUGHT GAME

After 13 days off, the Crusaders were ready to "Bring the Hammer" Friday night against Westminster Academy. From the very first kickoff it was evident that this game would not be won easily. Both teams started the first quarter strong, but stalled after untimely penalties and were forced to punt. On the second drive of the Crusaders, they were forced to punt again after a 50 yard run by Jake Sofianos was called back because of a chop block. Jon Gesin would then have a great punt to pin the Lions inside their own 20 yard line. Starting on their own 16 yard line, the Lions looked to put the first points on the board. After moving the ball into Crusader territory, Ray Sharp was picked off by Stanley Durbin while trying to go to throw the ball up for his #1 threat Josh Orsino. The Crusaders could not capitalize on the turnover however, and ended up fumbling a handoff inside their own 20 yard line. This time the Lions caught the stingy Crusader defense out of position on a 13 yard touchdown to Orsino on a double move from Sharp. After another short offensive Crusader possession, the Lions were looking like they would put the ball in the pay dirt again, when Sharp put the ball up for grabs in the corner of the end zone. Once again, Durbin came out of nowhere to undercut Orsino and pick Sharp off (If you didn’t already know, Orsino is thought of as one of the best WRs in the county, and holds a few county records.) The rest of the half was uneventful and both teams went into half time for a well deserved rest with the score: 6-0 WA over CSCA. In their first possession of the third quarter, the Lions moved down the field in five plays and scored on a 6 yard pass from Sharp to Andrew James. Both teams would fumble on their next two drives, and the Crusaders would then stall on fourth down from inside the Lions’ 30 yard line after a nice, long drive. The Lions fumbled on the first play of the fourth quarter, which gave the Crusaders a spark on offense. Mike Martin capped off a ten play, 53 yard drive, with a beautiful throw to Kyle Boutin in the back of the end zone. The drive was spurred by the running of Durbin, Sofianos, Pommels, and Kevin Ramos, as well as great blocking by the offensive line. Unfortunately, the Crusader defense, which played great all night, could not stop the Lions on two third downs, and would eventually give up a long touchdown to Orsino from Sharp to put the game away. All in all, the defense allowed only 52 yards rushing, forced 4 turnovers, and held a pretty prolific offense to 6 points in the first half, and 14 in the second. Offensively, the Crusaders struggled, but will look to build on the success of some long drives that ended in fumbles or penalties. Come out next Friday to see the Crusaders renew an old rivalry against Coral Springs Charter School. We will be playing at 7PM at the Coral Glades High School field.
