Welcome to CSCA Track and Field
Track is a spring sport that starts in late January with practices and the first meet is scheduled for mid February. The regular season concludes with the district meet the middle of April with the regional and state meet being held at the end of April.
Brad Lindbergh is the head coach, in his third year and in his 5th year overall. He was the head coach at Stoneman Douglas HS. Previously he was an asst. coach at St. Thomas H.S. and was the middle school cross country coach at Coral Springs Christian School in the 1990s. Coach Lindbergh ran track and cross country in high school and college and has run hundreds of track and road race events over the past 30 years.
The head assistant coach is George LePorte who is also the head football coach and a former CSCA track athlete coaches our sprinters. Dave Carrier is our long time Pole Vault coach and we have coaches for the hurdles, throws and jumps. Coach Lindbergh coaches the distances and the high jump.
Our goal is to train up any athlete to their full potential and to use their God given talent to give glory to God by competing with excellence, integrity and enthusiasm. Our aim is to improve each day whether they are a beginner or a state level athlete.
Our boys track team has won the last three district titles and in 2010 the boys won the regional title for the first time, for any sport, in CSCA history. We have also had at least one individual qualify for state each year since 2006 and we have finished in the top 15 at state twice. Noah Thompson won the pole vault in 2008 and we have had a top four finisher each of the last six years in the pole vault. Kent Lindbergh is now running track for Wheaton College(Illinois) and former runners Nick and Skylar Squillace and Noah Thompson all run track at the University of Northern Florida. Nehemiah Thompson is on the track team at Florida International.
The girls Cross Country team qualified for state in 2006 and has had school record holder Abbie Slupecki (21:20)qualified twice for state as an individual as she is still just a junior. Former team member Catie Bowne won seven state titles as a Crusader, four in the 300 hurdles, two in the high jump and one in the 100 hurdles. She ran for the FAU women’s track team in recent years.
There will be an informational, sign up meeting for track in early December. See you then!
